Springtime Pests: Springtime Pest Hot Spots To Check This Spring

Posted on

Have you prepared your home for the pests that are sure to come out this spring? The warm weather of spring is a nice change from the cold months of winter. Unfortunately, household pests also enjoy the warmer weather of spring. This means that you'll need to make sure your home is ready to keep out potential pest infestations.

Because spring pests come in all shapes and sizes, your property could become home to several types of pests. To ensure that your home is safe against pest infestations this spring, check out the following pest hot spots from early spring onward.

1. Outdoor storage areas

If you have a shed or garage that you use for storing items, check these locations this spring. Check inside and outside to make sure that there are no holes or gaps that might allow pests inside. Store as many of your possessions inside sealed, including plastic tote boxes, as these are insect and rodent-proof.

2. Outdoor trash area

Is your trash sealed tightly and away from your home? Many kinds of pests may use your trash as food, such as rodents, wasps, and flies. Keep your trash away from your home, and ensure that it is tightly sealed when stored.

3. Walls and roof

If you haven't checked your walls and roof for entry points that insects and animals might use to access your home, spring is a good time to do so. Bees and wasps will look for small holes in wooden areas. Rodents and insects will look for entry points to gain access to your cellar and attic. Try to locate and seal all entry points.

4. Vegetation in your yard

Thick vegetation provides shelter and cover for all manner of pests. Mosquitoes especially like to hide in thick vegetation when the sun is out. Trim back vegetation and try to keep vegetation away from the walls of your home, since pests will use the vegetation as cover while they try to enter your home.

5. Attic

Check your attic for any insects or animals that might have hibernated there over winter. If you do find pests, such as rodents or bats, hire a pest control service to get rid of them for you.

6. Windows and doors

Spiders love to build their webs around windows and doors, as these areas are close to lights, which attract flying insects such as flies and moths. You can hire a pest controller to spray pesticides on the walls of your home to keep spiders and other pests away.

If you have yet to check out these hot spots in and around your home, then do so soon. And if you do find pests have begun to congregate in these areas, consider calling a pest control service
